A Historic Meeting in Rome: Mafalda and La Pimpa Face to Face for the First Time in Piazza Navona

Rome is currently hosting a meeting that was thought to be impossible. Starting yesterday, May 14, 2026, the Instituto Cervantes in the iconic Piazza Navona has opened its doors to a world-first exhibition: “Mafalda & La Pimpa.”

For the first time in history, the cynical and rebellious Mafalda (created by the legendary Quino) meets the joyful and curious Pimpa (the red-spotted dog by Italian master Altan). The exhibition, part of the 2026 ARF! Comics Festival, features original plates and rare “Artist’s Edition” strips. It’s a dialogue between two ways of seeing the world: Mafalda’s sharp criticism of adult society and La Pimpa’s magical, child-like wonder. Maestro Altan himself was present for the opening, meeting fans and signing copies. If you are in Rome between now and July, this is the one “Nona Arte” event you cannot miss.
